Welcome to the original first page of Chris' Chrysalis! When I first began to realize my maternal biological family was the Mikovsky clan, I set up this website to keep track of my research as it progressed and put pictures here so that my newly found siblings would be able to see just what I looked like. As time went on and I discovered just how to set up my website with pictures and such, I just kinda kept adding them. I'm still having a blast! CLICK on Pix to ENLARGE |

The bottom picture is of my mother (center) and ? (right), taken Sept 14, 1944.
This date is significant, because it is almost exactly 9 months before I was born! | ||||||||||||||||||||
The album of Mikovskys in Florida on the preceding page is made up of some of the nearly 150 pix I took when Lela and I visited with my Mikovsky family in Florida during December 2002. We made the loop from Jacksonville, where three of my sisters live, to Lake Worth, where my mother is buried, to Lake Harbor where Eddie, my older brother lives and then backto Okeechobee at the north end of the lake where my younger brother Mike and his family live .. well this is close, anyway.
And so, here follows a brief history of my story.
I was born William Mikovsky, on June 28, 1945. I was adopted by Ernest and Frances Scott on Aug 1, 1945. These are my parents. They loved and nurtured me through all the hard times of growing up and they never faltered. I love them dearly. My father, Ernest, passed in 1963 and my mother Frances, in 1989. There is no doubt in my mind that they are together and at peace.
In 1966, I wanted to join the US Navy Reserves and was looking for a copy of my birth certificate in my mom's papers and came across an adoption paper of ME! ... and for two of my other three Scott siblings as well!! Turns out, Cecil, my oldest brother was the natural child of my mother by her first marriage.
Well, since my parents had not elected to tell us we were adopted, I did not pursue the matter any further at that time. Sure, I was shocked, to say the least, but old enough to realize there were two schools of thought ... tell the adoptee or don't tell them. Either choice was acceptable to me ... everyone probably has not been as forturnate as our family was. I decided at that point I didn't really need to know badly enough to risk hurting my mother, so I said nothing to anyone.
After my mother Frances passed in 1989, I began to wonder about my ancestral lineage .. and no one would be hurt if I searched. The process of my search for my Mikovsky family is far too complex to undertake a full explanation. .. but suffice it to say, I paid the State of Virginia, et. al., and it was worth every dime!
The State of Virginia found my mother in 1993 or so and she indicated she didn't wish to have contact with me. The person who found her related to me that my mother sounded frightened. OK, so I let it lie for the time being. I knew she was getting on in years and there could be severely complicating factors.
I actually got my first whiff of things due to an internet thumbnail picture of Eddie Mikovsky, one of my nephews. It struck me that he looked like me when I was about 25-30 lbs lighter ..heheh. Since he was a teacher in Atlanta, I did a search with USSearch and found Mikovsky spoor in Florida!
Through various mechanisms and activities I discovered my mother had reported my father as being Eugene Baker and not Ed Mikovsky. I also discovered that she had changed my name on my birth certificate some 4 months after I was born ... did that mean Baker was NOT and Mikovsky WAS my true name? The adoption papers showed me as William Mikovsky, not William Baker!
I still don't know the answer to that question with certainty but the warm reception I got from my Mikovsky brothers and sisters make it almost a moot point. The reunion took place in December of 2001 in Jacksonville Florida and continues as I meet more family members.
Although I am 1500 miles away, I'M HOME!

*Mike & George are only one mutation apart, as per the odd way values for DYS 389i/ii are obtained. If a single mutation occurs at DYS389i, a resultant increase in DYS 389ii also occurs since it is a sum of part of itself plus DYS 389i.
